Premier League: Project Restart

Building trust in COVID-19 testing for the entire Nation

The Premiership is the world’s most famous football league. The season was scheduled to conclude in May, but all the games were suspended in early March due to COVID-19, Prenetics underwent an intensive due diligence process and won the tender to get the league playing again.

The Process

Project Screen by Prenetics had to perform the RT-PCR swab test at 20 clubs all over the UK. Both players and staff would need to be tested over the course of several months in order to allow training to commence and matches to be held behind closed doors.

The Process

Testing stations were set up at the training grounds of each of the teams in the Premier League. These stations were staffed by trained healthcare professionals to identify the players, trainers and staff and collect the sample.

Key Innovations

The collection pods were designed to be easily constructed and sterilized. For match days, the digital health passport system was developed to only allow people into the stadium who had a current COVID-19 test, taken in the last 5 days.

Results

The Premier League successfully kicked off on June 17th, 2020. To date over 20,000 tests have been processed with results delivered in 24hrs to team officials. Several cases have been detected with players having to quarantine.

“It’s a huge honour to have been involved in a project that is so visible on the world stage. My team and feel enormous pride in having successfully delivered a project so close to the Nation’s hearts”

Avi Lasarow, CEO EMEA Prenetics
